British Colonialism

Between 1731 and 1765 more and more slaves were bought from Madagascar. In 1795, the Cape Colony became a British colony, before it was returned to the Dutch in 1802. During this first period of British rule, South-East Africa became the main source of slaves.

Decolonization of Asia and Africa, 1945–1960. Between 1945 and 1960, three dozen new states in Asia and Africa achieved autonomy or outright independence from their European colonial rulers. There was no one process of decolonization. In some areas, it was peaceful, and orderly.
