THE RECTIFICATION OF UNLAWFUL COMMENCEMENT OF THE EXPANSION OF A DAM AND THE CLEARANCE OF VEGETATION ON PORTION 7 OF FARM WITTEDRIFT NO. 306, PLETTENBERG BAY
Eco Route Environmental Consultancy has been appointed as independent environmental practitioners by the proponent, Honeybush Investments Pty Ltd, to ensure rectification of unlawful commencement of an activity in terms of Section 24G of the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998) for the expansion of a dam and the clearance of vegetation on Portion 7 of farm Wittedrift no. 306, Plettenberg Bay.
The farm Wittedrift no. 306 is approximately 291.98 ha in extent, and the development footprint is approximately 44 ha. The farm lies within a predominantly Critical Biodiversity Area, bordered by Ecological Support Areas. The project entails the following:
Cultivation of 42ha of Honeybush Tea - Planting of 7Ha of Honeybush is complete. A further 3 ha of Honeybush planting commenced in May 2017. 35Ha of Honeybush still needs to be planted; however, only 25ha was authorised for planting of Honeybush by the Department of Agriculture. A new application needs to be submitted to the Department of Agriculture for an additional 17ha of Honeybush plantations. 28.8ha of land was brush cut in preparation for planting. A further 14ha will need to be brush cut in preparation for cultivation and planting of Honeybush Tea.
Expansion of an existing farm dam from 0.5ha to 1.88ha – this has been completed.
The proposed construction of two residential dwellings – The dwellings will be +/- 448 m² each (Total 896m²). An extra 50m2 working area has been allocated around each property for construction purposes. Vegetation clearance has commenced for this activity. The total area of land cleared for the proposed developments is +/- 2800m²
The proposed construction of a shed - The shed will be approximately 200m² and will be situated next to the existing dam.
A temporary nursery - A temporary nursery was established on site. The nursery is 1200m² in size. The nursery was placed in an area that was already brush cut.
The construction of a road – A road measuring approximately 480m in length and 4m wide; except the top and bottom of the road, which are wider than 4m, was constructed.
The proposed construction of a boardwalk and jetty - The proposed jetty and boardwalk will be 39m² in size. Vegetation clearance has commenced for this activity. Less than 300m2 of vegetation was removed; however, vegetation in this area has re-established itself.
The proposed construction of a borehole and pipeline - Please note that this activity is no longer applicable as the applicant is no longer constructing a borehole and pipeline. Please ignore all reference made to the borehole and pipeline within the Section 24G Draft Report.
