The Proposed Construction of a Boardwalk to Connect Granny’s Pool to Main Beach, St Francis Bay, Eastern Cape
Eco-Route Environmental Consultancy has been appointed as the Independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to ensure compliance with the regulations contained in the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998 as amended) and the 2017 Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations for a Basic Assessment Process.
The Applicant is Kromme Enviro-Trust.
The proposed activity entails the construction of a boardwalk to connect Granny’s Pool to Main Beach and will require prior authorisation in terms of the following:
- National Environmental Management Act/ NEMA (Act 107 0f 1998);
- The 2017 NEMA EIA Regulations;
- National Environmental Management: Integrated Coastal Management Act (Act 24 of 2008);
- Section 38 of the National Heritage Resources Act (NHRA) (Act 25 of 1999)
The proposed will be the construction of a wooden boardwalk which is approximately 395 metres in length and 1.2 metres wide, with a guardrail of 0.9 metres in height, and two fishing platforms. The boardwalk will begin at Granny’s pool and end at Main Beach in St Francis Bay. The boardwalk will be constructed within the littoral active zone and the high-water mark of the sea.
