Prince Alfred's Guard (PAG) is an infantry regiment of the South African Army. As a reserve unit, it has a status roughly equivalent to that of a British Army Reserve or United States Army National Guard unit. The Regiment is located in the city of Port Elizabeth.
A dramatic monument
The Prince Alfred's Guard Memorial is situated in St George’s Park, on top of Port Elizabeth's second oldest water reservoir. This memorial forms the central ornamental feature of the Service Reservoir.
It was on 6 November 1907 that the Honourable Edgar H Walton, MLA, Treasurer General of the Cape Colony, unveiled the memorial to the fallen of the Prince Alfred's Guard.
