Pot of gold at Donkin

Donkin Reserve in Port Elizabeth must surely be one of the best places in South Africa for “Rainbow Watching”. Much of it has to do with its location which is being pretty much in the line of fire, of not only the prevailing wind direction, but also the reserve is right in the path of where our winter storms make landfall. When it does so, it creates the most beautiful rainbows.

But as it is with rainbows, they do not last forever. Normally the spectacle is preceded by thick, white convection clouds resembling a silent waterfall manifesting from nowhere in particular. The moisture it brings with it is what generates the spectrum of light that so fascinates us. As quickly as they appear, they never stay for long. Enjoy them while they are out to entertain you.
